The Big Easy

If you partying inside the Loop visit The Big Easy in Rice Village. They feature live Blues six nights a week with Sunday nights reserved for Zydeco.

The Big Easy host a weekly Blues Jam on Wednesday nights. The last Thursday of each month showcases the monthly Houston Blues Society Jam and The National Zydeco Foundation Jam is held on the last Sunday of each month.

2016 Mainstage

On Saturdays the headliner is Faye & The Mid City Players. pumps up the crowd with her high-energy, interactive performance Tina Turner, Earth Wind and Fire and other Soul classics.

2016 Mainstage is located on Main street near the Greyhound bus station in Midtown Houston. The crowd is an eclectic mix of young and old schools, just like the magnificent music that can be heard there.

House of Blues-Houston

Sunday’s Gospel Brunch is a one-of-a-kind live music and dining experience at the House of Blues in downtown Houston. It’s scrumptious all-you-can-eat southern style buffet features breakfast favorites plus a host of southern specialties.

Each Sunday different Southern gospel groups from around the Gulf Coast perform live on stage. The music, meal and memories are always uplifting and energetic.

Historic Market Square

Houston Downtown Management District presents Concerts at The Square: Friday night and and Saturdays the magic of music blankets Market Square Park this Spring.

Other fantastic events happening in the the historic square include the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow at 8 p.m through May 16t visit the website for details.

Discovery Green

The Discovery Green Blues and Burgers is becoming a Houston lunchtime tradition. It a musical showcase chocked full of local talent and regional musicians that are known to blow some of the best sweaty jazz and blues south of the Mississippi Delta.

The Burgers and Blues Concert series puts a little music in your mid-day by starting around noon and lasting about an hour so. If you are anywhere near downtown or work in the area on a Wednesday from March to May don’t miss these must see lunchtime “free concerts in Houston.”

UH Thursday Concerts

The good times roll every Thursday evening May 3 - June 28, @6:30 p.m. Git yourself down to the Anheuser-Busch Stage and Fondren Performance Space at Discovery Green! Everyone in town will be rocking out to some of the best music of Texas and the Gulf Coast.

Funk, Hip Hop, Zydeco it’s a real musical gumbo that will make your feet want to do the happy dance which is encouraged, expected and exceptionally fun on grass. One side note that from the Discovery Green website that you should remember is that “photographs and video at the park for personal use are welcome provided their activity does not restrict public use of an area of the park. Stuff For Houston Couples - Weekend Event: Juneteenth Festival

Tops on the list of Houston couples, families and other groups looking for fun stuff to do this weekend is the "Number 3 summer festival in the nation" Houston’s Juneteenth.

The weekend event draws people from all over the nation who come to party, participate and partake of the parades, concerts and festivals held all over the area each year.




The city’s Juneteenth celebrations have their roots in antebellum Galveston, Texas, where the "Emancipation Proclamation" was read from the balcony of Ashton Villa, which had been the headquarters for the Confederate Army in Texas.



The following year African Americans in Houston began celebrating the occasion in the newly purchased Emancipation Park and soon other communities around the Gulf Coast began joining in.

“National Emancipation Association’s 38th Annual Juneteenth Parade"

The longest running parade honoring the African American holiday featuring floats, trail riders and marching bands from local high schools starts in front of minute maid park.

Independence Heights Juneteenth Parade & Festival

This family-oriented event. The Parade's Theme: Someplace In Time will feature more than 100 Parade Entries will will have a duration of 1.5 hrs.

Couples and families free tickets for the covered seating area (4 per person over age 16 while they last) from the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. The box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute any remaining tickets for the nights event.

“FREEDMEN’S TOWN” by playwright Dwight Baxter, about Houston’s Freedmen’s Town and the men an women who organized the first Juneteenth celebrations will be presented at Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church Friday night.

Free Concerts In Houston This Weekend

A free concert in downtown Houston have featured Tweed Smith and Cody Moffett at downtown's favorite urban green space Discovery Green. Another concert in Houston will feature the Houston Symphony at Millers Outdoor Theater.

The downtown Houston concert showcases the talented vocalist Tweed Smith. She is best remembered as the female member in War. She did her major recording and touring with the soul group from '79 through '81. Smith sang on three War albums (to which she also contributed several tunes as co-author). "They added me in celebration of their second decade of recording," she noted in one of her recent interviews.

This Houston vocalist has been featured during nationwide concert tours and made several major television appearances. Her Stage Performances include Jesus Christ Superstar, the President Clinton's Presidential Election Victory, The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Don Cornelius' Soul Train, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.



The other artist on stage Sunday at the free concert in Discovery Green Park is Cody Moffett. The drummer extraordinaire, is son of the legendary Charles Moffett. His jazz drumming sounds rich and fill the songs with a constant tempo that grooves.

This show is part of the Sunday's In The Park Series, that brought some of the top musical acts in this area to the Houston stage this year. Downtown Houston is home to some of the best free events in town.

Discovery Green is located in downtown Houston. The 12 acre urban green space includes an one-acre lake, children’s playground area, interactive water features and small and large dog runs. The Houston park is free and open to the public daily.

This weekend don't miss the concert in the park, you'll love the multi-use amphitheater's comfortable sloping lawn. Bring a blanket pillows are whatever makes you comfortable and enjoy this fabulous Houston event.

Free Concert At Houston's Miller Outdoor Theater

Houston Symphony take center stage at the Miller Outdoor Theater. The symphony plays musical masterpieces for audiences of all ages. This weekend's free concert presentation will include Kodaly's Dances of Marosszék, Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K.219 (Turkish), and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Opus 60 Gregory. Vajda, conductor and Tai Murray, violin.
