The Circus Visits Houston July 2009

Children of all ages will be delighted, dazzled and down right happy as Reliant Stadium plays host from July 15-26 to the circus. Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey present "Over the Top" the 138th Edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey shows.

Houston audiences can get free tickets and discounts for circus performances by registering for their Baby’s First Circus. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Baby’s First Circus program is for parents of newborns, up to 12 months old. The first ticket is on the house to help them celebrate their very first circus.

Gold Cup Soccer Championships In Reliant Park

Gold Cup competition is presented by the association's football championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The popular soccer competition has flourished and the tournament is well respected, supported and has hard fought for spots that will lift the winners on to the next level of competition. The USA and Mexico have hosted the tourneys and both of them have won the competition 4 times each.

This year's Reliant Stadium competition features two of the top teams in the world.
Mexico and Panama...This year marks first time Nicaragua has ever qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
In preparation for their debut, Nicaragua has headed to Brazil for friendlies against several top clubs. Friday, Nicaragua lost to Fluminense 3-0.

Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows


July 16-19 2009
Houston dog owners can participate in practical clinics on dog health, grooming and training when Houston's Reliant Center opens it's doors to one of the finest indoor dog shows in America. Prospective pet owners in Houston can attend a Meet the Breed seminar to learn how how to find the perfect pet for you.

African American History In Houston-InterActive Theater


The Interactive Theater serves up a piece of African American history this month, performing "Harriet Tubman's Freedom Train".

The historical drama may seem pale in comparison with the real life adventures of Harriet Tubman a fearless runaway slave, who became a heroine by helping hundreds of slaves free themselves from bondage through clandestine trails and backroads, better known as the underground railroad.

A virtually undetected part of the southern escape route ran from Texas to Mexico, little if any information exists about how it functioned or how many African Americans quietly blended into the Mexican populace during the mid-1800's.

African American history month in Houston should always bare reminders of the harrowing adventures of Tubman and the other conductors and safe havens that operated along the underground railroad.

Free Black History Events In Houston

The African American Library at the Gregory School is looking for Houstonians who have valuable and interesting pieces of history such as rare photos of family members, important individuals and events. They realize that these items are precious, so they have developed a special project as a way for all Houstonians to contribute to the collection at Houston African American Library housed at the Gregory School.

Appointments to participate in the scanning project can be made by calling Ingrid Grant at 832-393-1364.

If you don't mind taking a short train ride from Midtown Houston to Reliant park this week, you'll get a chance to take your kids to see Elmo, Zoe, Telly and friends explore Big Bird's garden. Sesame Street Live- Elmo's Green Thumb features dancing ladybugs, beautiful butterflies and grouchy beetles to give kids a handy lessons on patience, overcoming their fears and the importance of even creepy crawly creature in our ecosystem.

Houston Hobby Center

The Hobby Center has set the stage in downtown Houston for Broadway Across America's acclaimed traveling show, "The Bronx Tale".

The story introduces 18 vivid characters to bring life to a gripping tale of a rough childhood on the Bronx streets. The Broadway hit stars Chazz Palminteri, an incredible actor with a distinct voice with shows nightly until Feb 8th.

The Circus Opens In Houston's Reliant Park

The circus has come to town just in time for kids of all ages to enjoy some real fun before the summer ends. "Bellobration" the 137th edition of the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus opens Friday, through July 27 2008, in Reliant Park. This year's show has a lot more death defying stunts that push the performers skills to the limit of possibility.
