Things For Couples To Do In Houston For Under $20



Having fun should never leave you with an empty wallet. That's why we went on the hunt around the city to find some inexpensive things to do in Houston for couples taking some downtime together.

According to research on couples, couples who did things together showed, that those who did thnigs togther more often, expressed feeling more satisfied than those who did not.

You can experience any of these exciting activities for around $20 and have a great time discovering some cool places in Houston to hang out during a weekend or any day you set aside time to spend with your spouse, lover or significant other.


Visit Quaint Shops And Boutiques

Houston and its suburbs are full of small shops where you can find an eclectic array of clothing, jewelry and sundries. There is Rice Village, Old Towne Spring or take ride down any farm to market road and look for a shop that strikes your fancy.

You don’t have to feel pressured to buy something, just browse the stores to get a good idea of places where you can find one of a kind gifts or items for you or your home.

Antiquing

If you have ever watched the Antique Road Show you know that there is a fine line between trash and treasure. You may have also noticed several of the experts, are from Houston, Texas.

You can troll down Westheimer, Yale street in the Heights or try one of the antique malls in the area. You may want to take an item that you already own to learn more about it or get offers from the antique dealers that you meet.

Bookstore Signings and Tea Sipping

Don’t limit your browsing to big brand bookstores. It’s way cooler to go to specialty bookstores.

If you’re looking for a nice place to sip some herbal brews, try the Conscious Cafe. It recently opened near the University of Houston. They are one of the good places to visit for couples in Houston who are health conscious, and prefer drinks made from flavorful leaves as their beverage of choice.

Even if you’re not light on your feet, a smooth move could be to learn a new dance. You can try your hand at the Rumba, Tango or Swing. Spending about an hour with a trained dance instructor is a good thing for couples to do in Houston. It could make them the hit at the next party they attend.

There are several places in Houston where you can even take a free lesson or join them on dance night for an open dance session.

Strolling In A Flower Garden

Bayou Bend has some of the most heralded gardens in the country. They are stocked with rare flowers, shrubs and gorgeous statuary. The colors and fragrant scents fill the air with a smell that is romantic and aromatic.

The gardens are operated by the Museum of Fine Arts which offers guided and self guided tours at a reasonable price. They are best viewed in the cool of the evening, but they are also a fantastic place to visit after dark with special lighting illuminating them for nighttime visitors.

It cost abut half as much to see a performance at a local college or community theater than it does to get all gussied up to head down to the Theater District in downtown Houston.

Free Events in and around downtown Houston this week

This week is full of Houston events that are sure to have downtown Houston packed with lots of fun loving people coming out to enjoy the Jazz Fest and other fun stuff that's priced to fit inside everyone's budget.

I've got the 411 on a few of the great, low and no cost events happening in and around downtown this week. These events are ideal for professionals that want to escape the bar scene and still have fun in the big city, without having to search all over town for places where you won't be bored out of your skull.

Discovery Green

Every Tuesday in August, at 7-8pm you can bring your own mat and learn how to release stress using techniques designed to energize you. It's part of their second summer yoga class, you can expect to learn great poses from Jerry Randall, the fabulous and talented instructor.

Free Movies

Some of the places we recommend hanging-out in downtown Houston are places like Discovery Green, Dean's Credit Clothing Store or head to Westheimer and drop in on Domy Books where lots of hip people come to mingle, floss and chill.

Free Events in Houston-May 2009

The fine folks at the Houston Historical Society are showcasing some of the works from private Houston collections.

The exhibit features some of the finest traditional works. They'll introduce you to the art of the retablo. A style of painting typically done on a wood carving or ornamental structures built and carved over facades and doorways. This exhibit provides a window into understanding the traditions associated with sacred spaces, ritual practices, and customs prevalent throughout the Americas.

Free Movie Screening At Domy Houston.

KABLUEY stars Lisa Kudrow, as a struggling working mom trying to balance work, two out-of-control kids and budget with more out-go than income. She seeks help from her brother-in-law whose part-time job is being a faceless blue mascot. This offbeat, comedy pokes fun at how a lousy job can push you to the edge of your sanity.

The edgy bookstore has more free movies on tap this week including the cult classic "Halloween." Visit their webspace for details on these and other free events this month.

Free Events This Weekend

Midtown Houston Farmers Market


You've probably passed this free weekly event on the corner of Travis and Alabama on Saturday's and seen all the commotion in the parking lot at T'afia. It was probably the Midtown Farmers Market.

Here's advance notice that you're welcome to stop by and support Houston's urban farmers. If you want to add a little zip to your cooking then start by using fresh locally grown produce. They will enhance the taste of any dish.

If you stick around Chef Monica Pope usually has a cooking class that'll enlighten you to a few culinary tips on how to whip-up a quick and fantastic feast for your friends and family.
