This Week Houstonians have two outstanding opportunities to experience lots of electrifying dance.

Dance is a basic human art. It affirms the essence of movement to the body.

In Houston, there is always plenty of dance performances for the fans and artist gifted with the skills to merge their body to musical sounds.


The dancers from Travesty have created dance to inspire, enlighten, and entertain us in a new educational performance titled Framing Dance.

You can catch it at Hobby Center for the Arts, Zilkha Hall.




Ailey's Houston Connection

The other dance event happening this week in Houston let's the power of Ailey explodes in beauty, spirit, hope and passion on stage in their latest production.

Houston should come out to see this physical feast and welcome home Ailey dance member, Marcus Jarrell Willis.

Willis honed his boogie shoes in Houston at the Johnston Performing Arts Middle School, HSPVA and also performed with Dominic Walsh Dance Theater.

Performing live on stage with the dancers, the Grammy Award-winning female a cappella ensemble. Their soulful harmonies will enlighten the intricate rhythms of Hope Boykin’s powerful choreography.

"Lunacy" Robotics Competition In Houston

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual competition that helps students discover the rewards and excitement of science, engineering, and technology. The “Lunacy” game, pits robots teams against each other to pick up 9" game balls and score them in trailers hitched to their opponents’ robots for points during a 2 minute and 15 second match.

Head downtown Houston to the GRB Convention center (Thursday thru Sat) for this exciting, multinational competition. The event pairs professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way.

Let's face it there's nothing that can excite the mind and lift your spirit, more than learning how to do something new. And you can learn few new things at several of the events that are happening in Houston this week.


This Week At The Houston Arboretum

Come learn how you can add resilient seasonal color to your yard and help reduce the flooding of your property. This D-I-Y class taught by Joe Blanton, the Houston Arboretum's Conservation Director, will bring you up to speed on how to design and construct a rain garden or small nature pond.

These eco-friendly water features not only attract wildlife, including birds, but are also beneficial to people. Classes start Wednesday, March 18, 2009: 7:00 -9:00 p.m. Don't forget to check-out the 60 plus Houston area native species plants that are on sale during the Arboretum's fundraiser through March 22.

What's Happening at The Laff Stop-Houston This week

One of the best ways to lift a hum-drum spirit is some old fashion, deep-seated laughter. According to a recent report, humor can improve memory, and help you be more creative.

Laughter is the best way to rid your day of stress. Stand-up comedian, Jimmy Roulette's is ready to cheer you up. His website says his blog is coming soon. But, you can catch him in the flesh.

His comedy crosses all boundaries –age, race, gender, it has no limits. He's crowd pleaser, whether he’s working with polished material or living in the moment,

Now that the secret is out, adding the Laff Stop to your "to do list" this week should be a no-brainer.

For the first time ever, Jones Hall will become their field of dreams. Everything will be shinny, the shoes, the hat and of course the musical instruments.
This week the high-stepping cadence and thunderous sounds of HBCU's (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) black marching band tradition, comes to center stage in the show-stopping attraction, DRUMLine Live.

Their spectacular showmanship and their soul-infused interpretations of top 40 hits are legendary components of HBCU's halftime entertainment and will become a memorable Houston event of the season.
