Many professionals 35+, that live in Houston, are tired of hanging out in clubs,they seem to always find a reason to throw a party. So, here's another celebration that you can add to your calender of fun things to do this week in Houston.

March 31st is Cesar Chavez birthday.

The charismatic labor leader, and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers.

His birthday has become a state holiday in eight U.S. states, including right here in Texas, where he helped farm workers win some well deserved rights.

You can find this American hero's name on parks, cultural centers, libraries, schools, and streets in cities across the United States.

So, cross off the whack April fools stunt and instead, have a party Tuesday.


Downtown Aquarium, Houston


A great place to take your family this week for a mix of dining and adventure is the Downtown Aquarium.

The floor-to-ceiling viewing, through acrylic observation panels, provides a dramatic look into the 100,000-gallon centerpiece aquarium..

The aquarium features other fun exhibits that allow you to enjoy wild encounters, sunken shipwrecks, and outdoor attractions such as the incredible 100-foot Diving Bell Ferris Wheel.

The latest attraction at the aquarium is the rare white tiger exhibit from central India.

Dinosaur Prophecy- Houston Museums




You won't need a pick or a shovel to discover the secrets about dinosaurs. Just head to Midtown Houston and stop by the Houston Museum Of Natural Science.

This week you can get the 411 on the feathered Sinornithosaurus of China and the latest word on the T.rex and Triceratops that thrived until the final extinction of all dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

The show inside Houston's world renowned Burke Baker Planetarium, investigates multiple species of dinosaurs. You'll visit their graveyards, study their bones, and reconstruct how these creatures lived and died.

What’s Happening at Houston’s Museum of Natural Science This Summer?

What’s all the hoopalooza over Houston’s museum of natural science’s summer-long “Geopalooza Hard Rock Anthology” ? Maybe, you too have seen the billboards and other ads touting the show. The Midtown Houston attraction, has stocked the place with an amazing array of rock, gem and mineral specimens.

Some of the huge geodes on display are taller than the average person and come from all over the world, a few, out of this world. That’s right, some of them are part of NASA’s moon rock collection while others are meteorites that have traveled from the far regions of outer space to be a part in this amazing exhibit.

Interactive Exhibits

The exhibition features ancient fossils, including trilobites, crystallized slices of petrified wood and fluorescent rocks that glow in every color of the rainbow.

This isn’t your everyday hands off exhibit. The interactive “Geopalooza Hard Rock Anthology” allows you to participate first hand in a geological discovery. You can actually select the geode of your choice and witness it being opened for the very first time.

There is also a “Dig Pit” to keep the littlest paleontologist, children from ages 3 – 11, busy by digging for fossil replicas.

Geopalooza: Houston’s museum of natural science’s exhibit, pulls out all the stops to make sure everyone can enjoy this geological adventure. The museum has gold panning kits available, where you can try your luck at finding minerals or even gemstones. Don’t fret, no one will go home empty handed, each patron gets to take home a souvenir vial with a specimen.

Rare and Beautiful Treasures




If you’re partial to those refined rocks or gems, check out the museum’s spectacular display at Cullen Hall. It boasts more than 750 beautifully crystallized mineral specimens including, some are the world’s rarest and most beautiful gems.

You will marvel at these precious gems and how the fiber-optic lighting creates such a unique view of these dazzling treasures in their walk-around display cases.

If you are visiting the city and want to find the museum, just remember the Museum District is on the Southside of Midtown Houston, near Herman Park and the Texas Medical Center. Dinosaurs Seen Near Midtown Houston

Do you want to see what kind of giant creatures, that once roamed the continents? Houston's Museum District is the best place to get an up-close look at some of the latest discoveries from their fossil records in the IMAX Theater movie, Dinosaurs 3D, now entering it’s last month at Houston’s Museum of Natural Science.

Take A Lunchtime Tour

Looking for something different to do during your lunch break. Why not consider, joining Houston’s Mayor Bill White and the Green Building Advisory Council, for tours of certified green buildings in downtown Houston.

The tours will take place on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, every 30 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the headquarters of Horizon Wind Energy in downtown Houston.

The objective of this group, is to share experiences including cost/benefit, business cases and key learning with others to help accelerate green building across the city.

The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future





Bill McKibben is one of today's most important writers on business and the environment and Monday, April 28 at 7:30 he'll be in Houston, at the Wortham Center, Cullen Theater. He authored the environmental classic, End of Nature which created a national movement called "Step it Up 2007."

The book is credited with fostering hundreds of rallies on Nov 3, in all fifty states for climate stability. He"ll be signing and discussing his most recent book, Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future (2007).
