Lenwood Johnson shares information about the historic Houston community of Freedman's Town. The community was built by former enslaved African Americans after the Civil War. He has been leading the fight for years to save the historic area.
It's a hidden treasure in the city. Listen as he talks about artisan bricks that were used to pave the streets and why many of the handcrafted architectural features are slowly, sadly disappearing from of the neighborhood.
The area is experiencing growing pains and Mr. Johnson cites the difficulties in keeping the information about historical significance of this part of Houston from being lost and forgotten.
