Bayou City Classic


For over 30 years the race has generated funds to help maintain and develop trails for running and walking paths in Houston parks. These trails have become key places to exercise or find peaceful escapes away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The race takes place in Downtown Houston. Both the 10k and the 5k start on Louisiana Street near McKinney Street. The finish lines for the two races are on Walker Street near Houston's City Hall.

St Patrick’s Day in Houston can't be complete without the jeers and cheers of a parade. Saturday, March 17th, Rain or Shine there will be a two-hour parade through the city's streets.
The festival organizer claim it’s one of the largest in the U.S. and with over 100 entries and it’s roots in Texas you can “bet your bottom dollar” there are not many that are bigger or better.

There is also a St Paddy’s street festival that boasts over 100,000 sq. ft. of festival space and some top notch entertainment. It takes place east of the G.R.Brown Convention center. In and around the streets near Lucky’s Pub.

Another fun way to celebrate the holiday in Houston is by joining the folks over at Griff's (3416 Roseland) for a day of Irish Stew, Chili, Chicken and Open Irish Dish Cook-Off.

Houston Zoo


The first Tuesday of each month from 2pm until closing the Houston Zoo offers free admission. If you haven’t visited this fabulous Houston attraction lately, Tuesday March 6 is a great time to beat the Spring Break crowds. The Zoo has also implemented some new price changes.
$12/adult
$8/child ages 2-12.
Remember the Zoo stays open until 6 pm during Central Standard Time so get there early.

If you miss the free Zoo Day, don't fret, you can get discount tickets to the zoo and other attractions in Houston from Houston CityPass.
