Thanksgiving in Houston is highlighted by several traditions in the nations 4th largest city. It may not be as famous as the New York version, but each year there is a Thanksgiving day Parade in Houston. There's plenty of opportunities for busy Houston professionals and their families to partake in the spirit of Thanksgiving and participate in one of the many Thanksgiving feast and other festivals that are being held throughout the city to share the day with others.

Thanksgiving Day Parade
With 5,000 thousands of participants including marching bands, join drill teams, dancers, cheerleaders, and clowns this 58-year old tradition is one of the most popular events held in Houston.

The parade route winds through downtown Houston, starting on the east side of downtown at Minute Maid Park at Hamilton and Texas.

Other streets that are on the route include Texas to Fannin, turning south to Dallas, east on Dallas for four blocks turning north on La Branch proceeding east on Rusk and ending at Crawford

Thanksgiving Superfeast In Houston
The 24th Annual Thanksgiving Houston Superfeast to be held Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2008. The event will be held on the grounds of Houston City Hall (located at 900 Smith between Walker and McKinney) and Tranquility Park.

The Superfeast menu boast a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, dressing and all the trimmings) to the homeless or anyone that show up with an appetite. Dinner will be served from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

To get fed, you do not need to leave your name and number, just show up on Thanksgiving Day at Walker at Smith.
The serving time will be extended if needed. No one is ever turned away and each guest is welcome to go through the serving lines as many times as he or she would like, no questions asked.

To volunteer, you do not need to leave your name and number, just show up on Thanksgiving Day and sign in at the volunteer tent on 500 Walker at Smith.

Things To Do In Houston On Thanksgiving

To get in the spirit of the season join Uptown Houston and other residents of the city at the traditional Uptown Tree Lighting Ceremony. The switch will be flipped lighting over 75 Christmas trees and other festive decorations to brighten Post Oak Boulevard, between San Felipe and Westheimer.

It's the signature event to signal the start of the Christmas holiday season in the Galleria area. Local choirs, bands and a huge fireworks show will be on hand to stir up your holiday spirit on Thanksgiving evening.
