Events In Houston This Weekend

If you're looking for some unique and really cool stuff to do, let me share my short list of events in Houston, that I've faved with anticipation.

A visit to the Hobby Center to catch the Tony Award winning play "Spring Awakening" is a good kick-off to an exciting Houston weekend, a day hanging out at Discovery Green and taking time to give back to the community through volunteering during a civic affair should be enough to keep me busy all weekend.

"Broadway Across America" brings to the stage and the whisperers in water cooler conversations, the poignant triumphs and pitfalls of youthful passions. This unforgettable tale that follows the journey from youth to adulthood is cloaked in powerful themes and imagery, that will make you go ummh!

Ice Sculpting Event In Houston

Saturday things heat up when Reverend Butter(the cat working on the slab of ice, below) and some of the coldest ice sculptors from around the country gather in Discovery Green for an all out ice sculpting event. One look at the Rev's webspace says, that this dude is serious about is craft.

We see ice, he sees inside the block, and unlocks figures and shapes that long to share our world, if only for just a few moments.

The Rev and six other artists will compete to create frozen masterpieces, using seven tons of ice in seven hours.

Afterwards I may try my skills on the ice, at the outdoor rink, since I plan to hang-out till dark to see what's showing, on the big screen at the park.

Things for Runners To Do In Houston

Do shin splints, heal and taper speak to your inner spirit, then don't miss the helpful training tips for runners at runbayou.com.
If your quest for excitement thrives on activities that physically challenge you, to satisfy your thirst for pleasure, set your sights for this month's Houston Marathon.

Whether you choose to spectate or participate, there's still lots of things to do before the runners lineup at the tape.

The best way to get smack dab in the middle of all the action, without having to lace-up running shoes is to volunteer to pass out water, check badges along the route, or other important non-running duties that are integral parts of making the Houston Marathon a world-class event.
